Tongue Thrust

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder (OMD) or tongue thrusting is the habitual resting or thrusting of the tongue forward or sideways against the teeth. This can occur during resting, swallowing, chewing and/or speaking.
According to the International Association of Orofacial Myology, the incidence of individuals in the general population that exhibit an orofacial myofunctional disorder is 38% and that increases to 81% for children exhibiting speech/articulation difficulties.
